Who are we?
We offer specialist healthcare services within somatic, mental health and addiction treatment. We work together to provide our patients with the best possible healthcare by living the values of; quality – safety – respect.
Østfold Hospital provides specialist health care services within somatic and mental health to more than 300,000 inhabitants of Østfold County. The hospital relocated to a brand new state-of-the-art hospital building in 2015, and is one of Europe’s most high-tech and digital innovative hospitals. The Hospital has one of Norway’s largest and most modern Emergency Wards, and is located about one-hour drive southeast from Oslo and about 30 minutes’ drive from the Swedish border.
Østfold Hospital is one of Østfold’s largest employers with over 7000 employees. The hospital is committed to professional development, and is educating health care professionals and performing research in close collaboration with the University of Oslo and Østfold University College.

The working language at Østfold Hospital is Norwegian. Your Norwegian proficiency must be sufficiently high to ensure reliability in patient care when communicating in Norwegian with our patients, families and colleagues. We do accept Danish and Swedish as academic languages.
For positions that require a certification as health care personnel according to the Health Personnel Act, a Norwegian authorization or temporary license must be obtained prior to the employment and commencement.

Before working at Østfold Hospital, residence permit or registration certificate must be obtained. Nordic citizens have automatic residency in the Nordic countries.
- Within the EU/EEA, you need only obtain a registration certificate.
- Outside the EU/EEA, you must obtain a residence permit.

If you are a foreign worker, you must have a D number to obtain a tax card. Anyone who is getting a D number must personally appear at the tax office with a valid ID. If you do not have a tax deduction card, your employer must deduct 50 percent of your income. This also applies to Norwegian nationals who move back to Norway.
