Since late 2010, several research projects, including PhD projects, have been started in the surgical department of the Østfold Hospital Trust.

In 2024, to enhance efficiency and underscore the significance of research endeavors in the surgical field, the hospital's research leadership, in collaboration with the surgical department's leadership, established a research group under the surgical department.

The surgical research group currently consists of 14 members, including 6 with PhD degrees and 3 registered PhD students.

Dr. Tom Nordby serves as the group leader, and Dr. Airazat M. Kazaryan acts as the deputy leader.

The groups roll out several research projects in gastrointestinal and vascular surgery, including national and international studies. Please refer to the details above regarding the projects outlined in Articles 4 and 5.
